5 Techniques to Brainstorm Ideas

mercredi 17 octobre 2012 | commentaires

How many times have you found yourself in a business meeting where you were asked to share ideas on a particular matter? Or been in a situation where you are sitting in front of a laptop with a blank power-point slide or word document preparing your next presentation or article? How easy or difficult have you found doing what we call "Brainstorming"?
Here are 5 techniques which I use to brainstorm my ideas

1. "Golden Time of Your Day"
Identify the golden time of your day i.e. the time when you are most energetic and creative. For me, it is early morning. I get my best and brightest ideas then. Find yours and set aside 15 minutes in that time frame to do nothing. That's right. Nothing.
You will realize that when your mind does not have to concentrate on doing other tasks, it gives you brilliant flashes of ideas.

2. Take a walk in the park
Whenever I am designing a presentation for my next talk, I always make it a point to take a walk in a nearby park. Research shows that Green is a colour which inspires our creative juices. Don't carry distractions with you. Just you and your thoughts. You will be amazed to see the number of new ideas you get while doing this. I do it and it works. If nothing else, it is definitely a health and energy boost for your mind!

3. Turn to Classics
You need not re-invent the wheel each time you are set to do something. It is smart to take cues from the genius works of other people. I usually turn to classics - movies & books. I find my inspiration, somewhere in-between the lines!

4. Make time for your favourite activity
I usually allot a little time for at least one of my favourite activities every single day. Choose yours! It can be cooking, listening to music, swimming, - anything which takes you away from work for a little while and still allows you the time to contemplate peacefully.

5. Talk to your friends
When in doubt or despair, speak with your friends. Whether they are in your professional circle or personal, thinking aloud with someone will definitely give you fresh perspectives. Do not shy away. In most situations, people are only too happy to help and share their opinions.
Few key points to remember while brainstorming:
a) Do not dismiss any thought because it seems silly or crazy. Each idea has the potential to lead to something bigger and better.
b) Always keep a note and a pen with you, so that you can write down your thought and don't have to worry about remembering it.
c) Create an idea journal. Sometimes you might think of something which seems completely irrelevant to the matter at hand, but you might be able to use it some other time, some other place!
Brainstorming is fun and easy! Don't view it as work! Your next idea is waiting in your mind to be heard by you!

The world is changing, how do we welcome change without suffocating existing establishments?
Time is the psychological enemy of man, so we must act fast and leave a legacy. Our peers were given the same units of time per day, see what Albert Einstein did with his time on earth despite his teachers claims that he was too dull to be of any good

The Architectural Master Piece in San Diego was proposed by a cleaner, the management of a luxury hotel decided that their single elevator was not sufficient for their guest. Engineers and architects were consulted and they proposed drilling a hole through each floor, while discussing their plans a cleaner in the hotel overhead their conversation.
"What are you up to?" he asked
"We planning to drill a hole through the hotel" and engineer said
"That's going to make quite a mess; plaster, dust and debris" the cleaner responded
"It will be fine, we plan to close the hotel" the engineer replied
"That is going to cost the hotel a lot of money and a lot of people will be out of work" the cleaner noted
"Do you have a better idea?" an architect asked
Leaning on the mop the cleaner pondered awhile on the challenge and then suggested
"Well why don't you build the elevator on the outside!!!?"
That was a breakthrough for the hotel and by becoming the originator of an Architectural masterpiece, they also doubled their profit

According to a professor at Harvard University, the founder of the concept of multiple intelligence, you posses at least ten different intelligence, in any one of which you might be a genius.
Unfortunately only two are measured and reported through our formal schools and university: verbal expression and mathematical analysis. But you could be a genius in any of these areas:
Art or Design,
Entrepreneurial Intelligence
Physical or Sports
Musical Intelligence
Interpersonal Intelligence

Do You Survive or Thrive?
This is a difficult question in this day and age. Few of you remain untouched by economic loss in an unpredictable economy and many have suffered lost homes, jobs, income and retirement. Add to that the increased stress of holding the jobs you already have that have become increasingly swollen with responsibility. The same numbers of tasks need to be completed with fewer employees.

So although it is definitely a blessing to have retained your job, the stress of balancing family and work can be overwhelming. On the flip side, you know you have a regular paycheck, and possibly benefits like health coverage, and paid sick days and vacation.

If you work at what you love, however, you could be thriving! Imagine being able to control your own time, schedule, and choice of tasks, and make an income? While this may sound ideal, some of you are just not suited to 'self-direction.' To run your own business and doing what you've always been passionate about also has its pros and cons.

The Human Survival Tool
So how do you live in this world with manageable stress and make a living wage? This is a question that many of you struggle with, or ignore completely because you feel there just isn't an acceptable answer. One answer is to design your own solution and identify just what it is that keeps you from living a fulfilling life. After all, each of you is given only one.

What if I told you the first step towards living a happier, less stressful life lies within yourself? It is something everyone is born with but your education may have discounted. The answer may lie in the right hemisphere of what has been shown to be the most under utilized super computer on Earth, your brain.

Humans are given a brain with two hemispheres that each have their own functions for a reason. Most jobs require an overwhelming amount of left-brain activity, including fact-based, organizational, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven tasks, and in the U.S. these tasks are driven by the economy. Right-brain tasks, including intuitive, imaginative, big-picture, project-oriented tasks, don't seem to be rewarded nearly as much. The goal would be to use both hemispheres equally, and augment left-brain activities with more creative thinking.

This is a uniquely human ability and the potential to live and think creatively, with imagination, is what makes you human. It is your survival tool for living in an insecure and ever-changing world. The more challenging the world is to live in, the more imagination is needed to meet that challenge.
How can you strengthen your right-brain creative thinking muscle? The answer is to add more right-brain tasks into your life by pursuing whatever makes you happy, whatever you are passionate about, whatever you do well - in your spare time. These are the activities that place you 'in the zone' - activities that you enjoy so much that you are unaware of time or place. These are the activities that spark imagination. And if you could make an income, a 'living,' with what you love, imagine how much happier you would be. Some of you have already turned your art or hobby into a partial income, which is the first step towards working at what you love!

Art and Creativity for Healing

| commentaires

What exactly is the effect of creating art? Can painting, singing, dancing, making pottery or poetry really change or heal us? My research and experience has me absolutely convinced it does. In fact, from my perspective, creativity is the most healing tool we have available to claim a more empowered, healthy and fulfilling life.

More than simply "art," I am addressing the act of creative self-expression; a vital, powerful and vibrant act, which is much more than painting a pretty picture or singing a song. Creativity is the opportunity to give expression to the soul and can support us in living an authentic, empowered and passionate lives. Creativity is the opportunity to communicate one's true self and allow us to express our own awesome, wonderful, interesting and unique version of the Divine.

I often hear people claim they are not creative. It is my belief, as human beings, we are all aspects of the Creator, and therefore innately and naturally creative. Anyone who has walked into a kindergarten classroom has experienced the high vibrational energy of creativity. No four or five year old says "I'm not an artist." That is a learned or acquired limiting belief. Picasso said it best: "All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once you grow up."

Even if one has lost that sense of being an artist, saying yes to creative endeavors, in any form, can be a powerful tool for introspection, revelation and deep healing. It can also be a way to communicate and connect with a much deeper part of ourselves. Creativity can help us to understand who we are, what we feel and why we are here.

Optimal health comes from the balance of body, mind and spirit. When the spirit is awake, it can dialogue with the body and mind. When the soul is listened to, honored and expressed, the body, mind and spirit are aligned and resonate congruently. When the spirit is not listened to, imbalance will inevitably occur. When we do not do not have genuinely meaningful activities to pursue, aliveness eventually turns to listlessness; one can easily become distracted or even addicted. When we are disconnected from our creativity we can become anxious, bored and/or uneasy. In order to reduce this anxiety many turn to food, alcohol, drugs, sex or other anxiety-reducing activities.

Art and creativity has its own kind of language and reaches us in ways words cannot. Bypassing the intellect, visual symbols, music, dance and other forms of creative expression can provide a sense of relief, joy, understanding, wonder, excitement and/or peace. Studies indicate that art has the powerful potential to heal. This is done by shifting ones thoughts, focus and attitude. Art can affect the autonomic nervous system, hormonal balance and create different brain wave patterns. This can instantly change a person's attitude from fear to hope and their physiology from that of stress to relaxation.

Creativity is also a powerful way we can heal emotional trauma. When we acknowledge and give expression to our buried feelings, past hurts, anguish and pain, a great burden is lifted as we release the heavy, toxic build up of emotions or "energy in motion." In Barbara Ganim's book "Art and Healing", she explains how creativity can be a powerful tool for emotional and physical healing: "Art is the voice or expression of this inner language. Expressing painful emotions through color, form, shape and image, releases their hold on the body and mind, clearing the path for healing."

In order to clear out any unexpressed emotions one may transfer the imagistic expression of them onto paper, canvas or sculpture. Once this is done, not only does the artist detach from stress producing emotions, it can also support one in seeing things from a new perspective. Messages can serve as a guide to assist in the resolution of inner emotional conflict. It is then possible to transform negative images that represent painful uncomfortable emotions into positive constructive images that can activate the healing response from within.

Art is a powerful tool and gives us the capacity and ability to express not just buried emotions, but also complex and overwhelming ones. Many have found that making art, even years or decades after trauma has occurred, can initiate the process of recovery and reparation. Creativity can support us in taking charge of how we experience our emotional reactions and minimize the stress in our bodies, minds and lives.

Gene Cohen, director of the Center on Aging, Health and Humanities at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., found that art gave study participants a sense of accomplishment, boosted the immune system and decreased loneliness. Cohen was quoted as saying: "Art is like chocolate to the brain, it taps into both sides. It has benefited the soul of the species since the time of cavemen or before."

The following are a few suggestions and exercises to support you in accessing your own states of inspired creativity:
Heart Collage: What you will need: Magazines, poster board and a glue stick. Go through the magazines quickly, and tear out the images, words and phrases that make your heart smile. Do not attempt to make choices from the intellect or the mind. You do not need to understand why certain pictures appeal to you and others do not. Just trust your joy and invite your heart to be your guide.

When you have 15-30 images gathered, cut them out neatly and intuitively arrange them on the poster board. Next glue all of your images, words and phrases on your poster board with your glue stick. When everything is on, place it about 5 - 10 feet away from you. Now take some time to look at your collage as a complete work of art. You may begin to see themes and patterns. You may have "aha's," epiphanies and revelations. You may realize things about yourself that you did not consciously know. Your collage can reveal to you what is important, your deep intentions, your passion, your joy and the authentic longing of your heart.

God Box: Get a shoe box, cigar box or a wooden box of any size. It can be hinged or have a lid, or a box with a slotted top. Just about any kind of box can work for this project. The next step is to paint it, cover it with construction paper using a glue stick, or fabric using a glue gun. Once your box is covered, decorate it with embellishments such as stickers, crystals, rhinestones, buttons, items from nature, pictures, images from magazines or any other items that have personal significance or bring you joy. Arrange your items on the box and glue them on.

After your box is complete, sit down with pen and paper in a quiet, relaxing place and write a letter to God. This can include anything you would like to say along with any requests. Some examples of requests may look like support with challenge, clarity about an issue in your life, your desire for improved health, a new relationship, a different home, world peace, greater prosperity, a new job, miracles, synchronicity, a car, grace and ease, assistance in losing weight. You may also make requests to cultivate qualities such as intuition, inspiration, motivation, compassion, kindness, peace, equanimity, forgiveness, healing, wholeness, or love. Claim what you want, big and/or small, and in as much detail as possible. When you are complete, place your letter in the God Box. Keep your God Box in a place where you will see it every day. Every time you want something, or want help with something, write it down on a small slip of paper, fold it up and put it in your God Box. Then forget about it. Relax in confidence that God has heard you, knows your desires and will respond in a positive, favorable and wonderful way. Not only is this creative project fun, it is a way to line up more fully with your spiritual nature, deepen your faith and bring about a sense of peace and well-being.

Art for Healing: For this project you need paint (acrylic or tempera works well) a piece of typing paper (or other simple white paper) and either a canvas, canvas board, poster board or a piece of heavy paper. You will also need makeup sponges, q-tips, paper towels, paper plates, and a cup of water. This process will help you answer questions and in the language of color.

As a warm up exercise, get your piece of typing paper and divide it into 4 sections.
Now consider what is the color and shape of anger? Using a q-tip or sponge, use one color to paint the answer in one of the sections.

Next, what is the color and shape of happiness? Again using a q-tip or sponge and the placing color and shape that comes forward for you on your paper.

Next consider the color of sadness. Paint it on your paper.

What is the color of love? Again, paint your answer on the paper.

After you get a feel for colors as answers to questions, and as a language for emotions, answer the following questions in the same way on the heavy paper or canvas using 2 or 3 colors to answer each question.

1. What is something you are unhappy about in your life?
2. Ask your heart what your soul is trying to learn from this situation?
3. What is something you could find to be grateful for in this situation?
4. What is something in your life that you are really happy or optimistic about?
5. What is something you like or love about yourself?
6. Ask your heart or Higher Self how you can move more in the direction of your happiness, your dreams or your life's purpose?
7. Take some time to complete your painting covering the whole canvas or paper.

This exercise can be used with any set of questions and can be posed around the subject of money, love, forgiveness, healing, God, compassion, and more. You can also begin to translate songs, and music into color and shapes. Once you start to see color as a language it can be translated in any number of ways which can be very healing, fun, creative and revelatory.

Mandala: The word mandala comes from the ancient language of Sanskrit and means "sacred circle" or "container of essence." They have been referred to as a spiritual path disguised as art, and a painted prayer. Carl Jung referred to the mandala as the archetype of wholeness and the ultimate healing tool. You can download mandala images from your computer to color or find mandala kits at your local book store. If you are ready to create your own mandala try this simple exercise. Take a few relaxing healing cleansing breaths. Once your mind has calmed down, ask your heart or Higher Self for the Healing Symbol for you now. Patiently allow it to come into focus in its way and its time. Once you have a sense of the colors, image, lines, angles give yourself permission to create it. This can be done on a simple piece of typing paper or newsprint with crayons. Or you may get heavier paper and use colored pencils, magic markers or pastels (or any combination of these materials). Perhaps you want to paint it with water colors, acrylics or oils. There is no one way, or right way, to create a mandala. Do not put pressure on yourself and allow the process to be simple and fun. If you enjoy it, it can evolve. The first ones I created were with crayon, then colored pencil, they evolved into small water color paintings and then large acrylic and mixed medium paintings. There is no wrong way to create a mandala, allow your inner wisdom and intuition to be your guide and have fun with the process!

If none of these simple exercises call to you, consider taking a creative class in your area. Some possibilities may look like painting, drawing, jewelry making, writing, poetry, welding, dancing, movement, music making, singing, computer classes, photo shop, photography, gardening, flower arranging, sculpting, pottery, acting, and more. Invite your heart to be your compass and joy to be your guide as you consider and explore what would be fun for you to do. The opportunities for cultivating creativity are endless and a way we can continue to unfold our inner being, go into the mystery of our Selves and know ourselves in deeper ways.

I am convinced no one's life can feel satisfying or complete until they explore their inner gifts. Physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health is the natural byproduct of tapping into ones inner treasures and sharing them with the world. I have seen it happen repeatedly; when one discovers and claims their inner creative resources, it supports them not only in cultivating vibrant health, but also tapping into happiness, purpose, prosperity, joy and a deep sense of satisfaction.

Explore what brings you joy, open your heart to locating your bless and invite these qualities to be your compass and guiding light. May your journey be met with abundant blessings of grace, ease, healing, wholeness and inspired creativity,

The Beginner's Guide: Accessing Your Imagination!

| commentaires

"Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world." - Albert Einstein
There is magic in making things up. It takes one idea, one dream, one leap of faith, one friend, one second in time, to change everything forever! All you need is a little imagination for, as Mark Twain once said, "You can't depend on your judgement when your imagination is out of focus."
There have been many times when I've said to myself "it's only my imagination". I've said it at a moment of strong intuition - a gut feeling that eventually proved to be correct, but at the time I didn't have any strong supporting evidence to back up those intuitive feelings. I've also said it when I've glimpsed at something wonderful that was about to happen and then dismissed those gut feelings by trying to rationalize how it just cannot be so.

Gut Feelings don't happen in your stomach
They happen in a part of your brain called the limbic brain which is responsible for all of our feelings. It is also responsible for all our decision-making and our human behaviour.
What can't it do? The limbic brain has no capacity for language. It is this disconnection that makes putting feelings into words so difficult. Our language part of the brain allows us to rationalize those intuitive feelings. But, when a decision feels right, there is no rational explanation for why we did what we did.

The kingdom of images is a real world, a creative state of consciousness. It is in this limbic brain region that meaning takes on form and objects become meaningful.
Honouring our imagination is vitally important because we live by images. They seep into everything we think and do, from taking a bath to speaking or choosing to remain silent at a meeting, to making love.

When we listen to the "imagination" part of the brain, our decisions tend to be faster, higher-quality decisions. It's only our inability to verbalize the reasons why we should do something that cause us to doubt ourselves or to trust the evidence-based opinions over our gut feelings.

The practice of imagination every day will help to clear blocks that mis-direct our energies by allowing us instead to choose to focus on positive images that give us courage and confidence.
Why do this? An image carries a charge. It sends electrical impulses through your whole body. If you are sad and low, your focused thoughts manufacture "low vibrations". If you're thinking angry, aggressive thoughts you are sending adrenaline through your body. If you call to mind images of triumph, you not only help to raise the vibrations of your body, you raise your immune system as well.

You see, "the stronger the imagination, the less imaginary the results!" What we can imagine has the likelihood to become real in our bodies and our world.
We need to begin by cleansing and healing our own minds through imagination. Let go and imagine your possibilities. Let it be a preview of life's "coming attractions".
Hint... DREAM BIG!
Here's what I have for you.

How to Live Well: Investing in Yourself

| commentaires

Taking Time to Listen
Figuring out what direction you want to move your life in is an entirely creative process of its own. How do you decide what you'd like to do or what you do well? There are a variety of activities you can try that may spark your imagination. So take some time and do a little ME research. Ask yourself questions. For instance:

• Do you remember what you wanted to be when you were a child?
• Did you have a skill at some point in your life that you were discouraged from doing by a well-meaning loved one or authority figure?
• Has there been something you've always wanted to try?
• What was your favorite class in high school?
• Did you earn a college degree in something you've never been able to find a job in?

This process may be simple or complex, depending on how much you know about yourself. A great way to measure your progress and remember ideas is to keep a journal or a notebook. Many believe that if you write your goals down, you will be more likely to accomplish them.

Once you begin to develop an idea of what direction excites you, try to imagine living in your new life. Write out an entire day, describe where it happens, indoors or out, or what your perfect environment looks like. If it's easier, cut photos out of magazines, or take photos of places where you'd like to live and work. I give suggestions for specific creative activities to help you visualize and imagine your desired future in Make Art, Be Happy - How to Live Well by Increasing Creativity & Improving Your Life.

Making Room for Making Art
Now that you've discovered what it is you'd like to do, or what you love to do and do well, begin to carve out a space in your life for it. Choose a closet, an empty room, the corner of the kitchen table, or any space in which you feel comfortable and secure. Use that space consistently to pursuit your dreams. This is where you sit and begin to make lists of all the tiny activities that will accomplish your goals. This is where you work out all the details and imagine exactly what your new life will look like and feel like. If you can imagine it in your head, and/or describe it on paper, you can also make it happen.

Learning Something New
What do you do if you have an idea of what you want, but don't know how to accomplish it? You educate yourself by finding a mentor who already does what you want to do, and/or researching everything you can about it on the internet. Ask questions! There is no such thing as a stupid question, and typically most experts love to share their knowledge. Read industry or trade magazines or join a club associated with what you'd like to learn. Find out what works and what doesn't work. Don't allow a lack of knowledge to keep you from reaching your dreams!

From the information you gather, build a step-by-step roadmap of all the things you need to do to change your life and/or work at what you love. It might not be easy. I've been pursuing my dreams all of my life and have struggled at times. But guess what? I make my living with my art and writing, the things I've always loved and done well.

Building a Supportive Network
If you've ever been discouraged by well-meaning or off-hand comments from those you love and/or respect, you know how crushing it can be. But more than that, these types of comments can cause your own internal editor to exclaim, "See?! I told you you weren't any good at this!"

Many of you struggle with an internal and/or external lack of self-confidence. This is partly your left-brain insisting that everything make sense, be clearly and easily understood, and if it isn't, causes fear. You must commit yourself to thinking positively. If you've found someone else who is living your dream, then it is possible for you to live it too. And to contribute to this positive thinking, surround yourself with a network of people who admire your work, respect what you do, and encourage you.

So don't be afraid to change your life. You only have one!

When Creativity Runs Out

| commentaires

Social media platforms have been a great help for most entrepreneurs when it comes to improving and refining their creativity. The new innovations these platforms regularly present somehow give entrepreneurs ideas on what people expect. Through other people and company's feedback, they gather information on improvements they can do to make their platforms more interesting. And if your company has also been taking advantage of these free social media platforms, which most businesses today do, you can also share the same benefit that others have. Brainstorming for new ideas to market your products could be draining and may not prove to be effective all the time. If you learn to manipulate and use the advantages of these social media platforms to your advantage, you could just be saving your company and creative team some mind-numbing work.

Aside from keeping your company updated through all these social media sites, you may also take a little sneak peek from your competitors. The aim is not to copy what their company has but to make it as an evaluation tool for your own company. Are you using several tools to your company's advantage? Is your company website up-to-date in terms of website content? Perhaps you could do a little improvement to your own business website?

The key to keep creativity coming is constant evaluation of where your business currently stands today. New improvisations may the stepping stones to turning simple ideas into more creative ones. The more you open your eyes to what is happening around you and your business, the more ideas you'll likely acquire that could be very helpful to your line of business.

Life Purpose

| commentaires

Your life purpose and the purpose of life from your perspective both play a very strong role in defining your point of attraction and the type of experiences you experience each and every day. If you believe a certain life path is your life's purpose, you will inevitably experience a great deal of experiences involving that life path each and every day.

Along with this phenomenon, the purpose of life from your perspective also plays a major role in defining your point of attraction. The purpose to which you assign the existence of life will deeply affect your point of attraction and the experiences you attract, because your experiences will inevitably follow a path that confirms your belief in your perspective of the purpose of life.

For this reason, since you can choose your personal life purpose and you can actively define your perspective of the purpose behind the existence of all life, you should do your best to choose good feeling thoughts as you define these belief systems. By doing so, you will feel much better overall each and every day and this will dramatically improve your experiences due to the shift in your point of attraction that will take place once you have utilized this process.

As a result of applying this process, your experiences will transform to match your newly developed belief systems and if you have chosen better feeling thoughts than you used to focus upon, your life experience will transform into a better feeling life experience overall.

Do What You Really Want To Do

| commentaires

Many people go through life doing exactly what other people want them to do, but you would be much better off in the long run doing what you really want to do right now. You can start doing what you really want to do right this minute too.

To do so, simply start giving your attention to what you really want to do and have always wanted to do. This attention to what you really want will attract more information concerning the things you have always really wanted to do and this information will help you better understand how you can go about doing what you really want to do with your life.

As you continue to give your attention to what you really want to do with your life, you will continue to attract more and more thoughts, ideas, information, and experiences that are a match to what you really want to do. This attraction of experiences, while small at this point, will provide you with the energy you need to actually do what you want to do.

Then, as the attraction continues to get stronger and stronger between yourself and what you really want to get out of life, your daily life experiences will transform to match your desires. At this point, the attraction between you and your desires will be very powerful and a large amount of your attention will be devoted to fulfilling your desires. If you decide to continue to give your attention to your desires at this time, your desires will surely manifest and you will then be living your dreams.

Empathy and Emotional Intelligence

| commentaires

Being empathetic is simply putting yourself in the other person's shoes. It is "the ability to feel what someone else is feeling." Empathy and Emotional Intelligence work together to produce long-lasting relationships. It is therefore not surprising that these two are the basic ingredients needed in order to have trust in whatever relationship you have, whether it is a professional relationship, a personal relationship or a societal relationship (for example, between a government and the citizens).

Is your pregnant or menopausal wife cranky? Try and imagine how hard it is to be in her condition. Is your teenage child rude and moody? Try and remember what it was like being a teenager - the uncertainty, the bodily changes, the being stuck in-between being a child and an adult. Is your elderly parent acting crazy? Try and imagine what it must be like to not be able to do the things you used to do so easily when you were younger.

It is quite possible to increase your level of empathy. In order to do this, you will need two main ingredients namely action and intention. The latter requires you to open your heart to other people. The former requires you to do corresponding actions. For example, you can donate your time or money towards the people around you who are going through a hard time. Sometimes, even just smiling can go a long way to show people that you have some empathy. You could also give a genuine greeting, compliment or word of encouragement.

To a certain extent, empathy is connected to whatever experiences that you have gone through. According to eqi.org: "the person who has actually experienced the widest range and variety of feelings, the great depths of depression and the heights of fulfillment, for example, is the one who is most able to empathize with the greatest number of people from all walks of life. On the other hand, when we say that someone "can't relate" to other people, it is likely because they haven't experienced, acknowledged or accepted many feelings of their own." However, this does not mean that just because you have not experienced a certain feeling that you will not be able to empathize with someone. As the example below will show, you can empathize with anyone, even people who have gone through experiences that you have not gone through yourself.

Richard Carlson worked with a couple who had spent the most part of their marriage arguing about money. The husband could not fathom why his wife wanted to save every penny. The wife in turn could not understand why her husband was spending so much of their money.

The tide turned when both of them understood where the other was coming from. The husband learned that his wife was an avid saver because she wanted to avoid what she saw happen to her parents - financial ruin. The wife learned that her husband was rather ashamed that he was not able to provide for his wife the way he saw his own father providing for his mother. In a nutshell, the wife was scared of being broke while the husband was scared of disappointing his wife.

Once they both understood the reasons behind the seemingly offensive actions, they were more empathetic towards each other. The conflict was resolved and they were able to obtain a healthy balance between saving and spending.

Empathy is what allows you to understand deeply what someone else is feeling. It is "the patient exploration of the other's person's thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Thus, empathy goes a long way in creating the right environment that will allow you to connect with whoever you have empathized with.

The Benefits of Letting Go of Negative Emotion

| commentaires

AFTER you form the ideal of the image you want to create in your mind, and you've followed all the threads of ideas and intuitive urges, you are ready to commit to the path of your dreams. Now take daily action steps, just as you do when you're on your way to the supermarket to buy what you need for tonight's dinner. You have committed to the action, you know what you're going there to do, and it doesn't occur to you to doubt your ability to go to the store and buy dinner. Keep going after your greatest dreams that simple. You commit, take the action step, and stop thinking about it as you go about your business.

Now you can calmly move forward toward your dream, and be certain that the outcome will be even greater than you can imagine because you're trusting on the Power within yourself to take care of all the details. It's important to stay calm, neither anxious when things don't happen quickly nor excited when you see signs of this Law of Attraction working, because it's the balance of your emotions and positive thoughts that bring you evidence of the initial sprouts of your dream moving into your conscious awareness.

When you are living in a state of faith and trust in something working on your behalf that is loving and intelligent, you will naturally let go and relax. There is great power in this natural feeling of your ability to prosper, and is a natural state of wellbeing. It's similar to a radio channel. You tune in to what you want to hear, and tune out what you don't want to hear. You can make static by keeping the dial set in between, in a state of ambivalence or confusion. But you can't have it both ways. You must be clear about what you want and remove all doubt, and cast out any thoughts that are in opposition to what it is you want.

Here are five tips to the process of effectively Letting Go:

1. Hold the thought and the belief that what you desire is possible for you.

2. Achieve clarity and develop and express your skills to the world. You may have to weed away opposing thoughts, doubts and uncertainties by examining your thoughts, journaling, or expressing your ideas to someone you trust. Uncover it all - everything that is limiting and making you feel less than your natural abundance. Include everything that is not a power thought, including jealousies, resentments, self-doubts, and regrets from the past.

3. Commit yourself to think strong positive thoughts every minute of the day, even when nothing seems to be working. The challenges in life are part of stretching and reaching out beyond your comfort zone.

4. Denial can come in handy in this case. What you are denying is the fear to take a hold of your thoughts and sabotage your dreams. You're taking a right turn now and going in a new direction. You deny the old ways that only brought you mediocre results. Now you are committed to staying positive and reaching your goals that leads you to your greatest dreams, without limits at any age or stage in life.

5. Reverse the fears, the insults, the sensitivities and hurts, and reframe them into a positive statement that supports your new self-esteem and status in your perception. Turn the thoughts around to support you, instead of limit you, and your emotions will shift from fear and anxiety to happiness and fulfillment and you will change the course of your life.

Practicing these five steps will give you a sense of accomplishment because you will be giving your mind something new to focus on and your belief that anything is possible will do wonders to raise your self-confidence and self-esteem. When you let go of all the limiting thoughts you gain a new sense of freedom and trust in your own abilities to move your life forward.

Creating a More Popular and Likeable Personality

| commentaires

Do you want people to like you? Well, you can do this easily. Just think of a particular person that you really like and try to figure out the qualities that person has and you are half-way there already.

Having said that, it has to be noted that getting people to like you does not just happen. You have to have a genuine interest in people for a start. You also need to work on it without making it look like you are desperate. People will definitely like you if you are a likeable person. You can take some definite steps to make people like you and these include the ones below.

Be friendly:
This is quite obvious. You cannot have a friend unless you are a friend yourself. So go out of your way to show your friendly side. Ask questions, show interest in the affairs of others and have a listening ear. These are great steps on the friendship ladder.

Don't Judge:
Nobody wants a friend that's judgmental or a friend that always points out their faults. Being a friend does not give you the right to sit in judgment on others. Be tactful and diplomatic. Don't say things that will hurt others and don't volunteer your opinion on a touchy issue unless your friend asks your opinion.

Be Optimistic:
If you have a cynical or pessimistic out look on life, nobody will like you. On the contrary, learn to look on the bright side of things. Have a positive and upbeat attitude. Encourage other people when they are down and they will always want to have you around them.

Be Generous:
Generosity is one habit that will always make people like you. And you don't have to be extravagant to show your generosity. Give small gifts that show that you care. All human beings are delighted when they receive gifts and are always happy with people that give them gifts.

Don't gossip:
The Muslims have a saying. "Say only wholesome things or shut your mouth". If you want people to like you, you need to make this saying your motto as well. Nobody will like you if you are a gossip, a tale bearer or a backbiter.

Sacrifice:
You really cannot get people to like you unless you go out of your way to do things for them sometimes. Therefore, you need to make some sacrifices for people. Volunteer you time, your skills and resources to help others and they will notice and appreciate your efforts.

Have Principles:
Finally, you need to understand that as a person, you must have some ethics by which you live your life. Be friendly, be helpful and generous but don't be anybody's fool. Take a principled stand on issues and when your friends want to manipulate you, simply refuse to be manipulated. Explain your reasons clearly and try to avoid unnecessary arguments. Carry out the recommendations above religiously and most people will find you irresistible.
